P-47D 42-8496 5F-X "Galloping Catastrophe". Nick's profile shows this a/c a little later on in her service career. See large image for detail notes.

Profile by Nick King

Notes for Modelers
This a/c is a P-47D-5 but has revised cowl flaps, wing pylons and aerial mast. The upper wing and fuselage invasion stripes seen in the previous photo have been overpainted and the tail band made wider than normal. This has resulted in the serial # being repositioned lower down and done in solid digits rather than stencilled. The first digit (2) has been omitted as well as the "W/W" designation. Rear view mirror below windscreen and 8 guns have been retained. The aircraft has been very well maintained - almost immaculate for an older aircraft. The name "Galloping Catastrophe" does not appear on the a/c but note the artwork on the cowling!
