DEDICATION This 56th Fighter Group gallery and its associated database is dedicated to the memory of the late Roger A Freeman, noted author and 8th AF historian. Roger always considered the 56th to be his “special” group, mainly due to the fact that he lived, quite literally, at the end of the Boxted runway! Shortly before his untimely demise, he mentioned to me that his ambition was to publish a complete list of all 56th FG P-47s together with their assigned pilots, personal markings and fate. What was holding him back though was his thought that only he and the odd “one or two” like me would be interested in such a thing. Little did he appreciate the true following that the 56th has amongst 8th AF historians! Whilst nowhere near complete, this part of the website is the start of such a project and hopefully other fans of the 8th AF will continue to add to it in the future. Rest in peace Roger, this is for you.
