Lt. Wilbur B Eaton, Portland, OR. 335th Fighter Squadron. P-51D 44-14339 WD-U “See Me Later”. Seen here with his Crew Chief S/Sgt. George Lee. The name on Lt. Eaton’s a/c is due to he and his good Friend Lt. Lloyd G Kingham, Grass Valley, CA agreed never to say “goodbye” to each other before missions but “see you/me later”. The addition of the Grim Reaper signified “Death – see me later, not now”. This a/c was lost on 5 November 1944 when Lt. Russell J Anderson became a POW. Regrettably, Lt. Kingham was also killed, but in a training accident on 22 July 1944 in P-51D 44-13641 WD-R.
