Lt. Glen W Wensch, 486th Fighter Squadron, P-51D 44-15611 PZ-H “Diablo”. This aircraft was previously Chet Harker’s PZ-H “Cile VI/Luck Of The Irish”. The Diablo artwork has been taken from Lt. Wensch’s previous P-51D 44-13805, individual code letter currently unknown, which was written off in a taxiing accident on 2 February 1945 at A-84 Chievres with Lt. Carl J Scaffone at the controls.

Additional Information

Lt Wensch’s 44-13805 “Diablo” previously served with the 363rd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force where it was the assigned aircraft of Group Commanding Officer Col. James B Tipton. The a/c was serviced by the 380th Fighter Squadron whose code A9 it bore, but the individual letter is not known. Seen in this photo, taken from Kent Miller’s excellent book on the 363rd FG, are from L-R Crew Chief S/Sgt. Ollie P Stone, Col. Tipton, then Capt. Carl E Swenson and M/Sgt. Dewey Austin, both from 380th Engineering. "Diablo" was transferred to the 352nd FG following the 363rd's conversion to a Tactical Recon Group on 4 September 1944.
